Follies, Food, & Vendor Fair

An event to benefit Relay for Life will be held at GPS on Friday, April 26 from 5:00pm-8:00pm. Join us for the Teacher Follies and Vendor Fair! Pizza dinner tickets are $5 per person. Showtime is 7:00pm. Hope to see you there!

Harvesting Brussel Sprouts

Ms. Allen & Ms. Gibbon’s Multiage students harvested Brussel Sprouts from their school garden this week. The veggies were grilled with olive oil and lemon/pepper seasoning. Most of the students gave the brussel sprouts a thumbs up!

MAP Testing April 15-26

Second Grade students will begin MAP Testing on Monday, April 15. Students will take both Math and Reading MAP. Check with your child’s teacher for their testing schedule. Be prepared to do your BEST! Eat a good breakfast and get plenty of sleep!

Career Awareness Week is March 25-28

We are excited to celebrate Career Awareness Week March 25-28! Activities planned to increase our students’ awareness of the world of work are:

Tuesday, March 26 ~ Each student will create a ”What I Want To Be” Silhouette to be displayed in the halls of our school.

Wednesday, March 27 ~ Students and Staff are encouraged to dress up to represent “What I Want To Be When I Grow Up”.

Thursday, March 28 ~ Each class will have a designated time to visit a variety of vehicles and farming displays representing many careers during Career Vehicle/Farm Day.

Faculty Follies & Shopping Extravaganza

RelayForLifeThe Gilbert Primary School Relay for Life team is excited to announce that we will be holding a Shopping Extravaganza on Friday, April 26 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the school, along with our Faculty Follies.  Below is a vendor application form.  If you or someone you know would like to participate, please print the application and return it with your check to Amy Derrick at Gilbert Primary School, 520 Main Street, Gilbert South Carolina  29054.  If you have any questions, please contact Amy Derrick at 803-821-1407.

Blowfish Reading Program

GPS students are challenged to read four extra-curricular books on their reading level between February 25-March 29 in order to receive free admission and special recognition at the June 1 Columbia Blowfish home game, along with other reading participants. The school with the highest participation rate receives $500 for new library books and will be presented their check on the field during the June 1 game. Look for the information flyer sent home recently for more information.

Blowie the Blowfish will help us kick off this program with a school wide assembly on March 6 at 8:15am. Students can wear their favorite hat to school so we can “Grab their hat” and read with the cat in honor of Read Across America Day!

Jump Rope for Heart

Jump Rope for Heart will be held at our school from February 25- March 1. Students will participate in jumping activities during their regular PE classes in honor of this event. Collection envelopes went home recently for your child to ask family or friends to donate to the American Heart Association’s campaign. All envelopes are due March 8. Your child can create his/her own online donation webpage by signing up at heart.org/jump . Search for Gilbert Primary School in SC and then Join Team! Thank you for supporting our Jump Rope for Heart campaign.

Spring Book Fair

Our Story Laboratory: Reading Gives You Super Power!  Book Fair is part of an incredible energy source for reading that brings to school a wonderful selection of fun, engaging, and affordable books kids want to read.  Giving kids access to good books and the opportunity to choose their own books will motivate them to read more. And like most acquired skills, the more kids practice reading, the better they’ll get!

Since there will never be a substitute for a parent’s direct involvement in his/her child’s education, please make plans to visit our Book Fair.  Looking forward  to seeing  you there!

Book Fair Dates: February 28—March 7

Shopping Hours: 7:15—7:25 am, children during class time, and after school until 3:30 pm
Special Event: Thursday, March 7
Book Fair Open House 2:30 pm—7:30 pm
Wax Museum presented by the 2nd Grade classes.

Yearbooks On Sale

Our school yearbook for 2012-2013 will be a hardcover, full color Memory Book. If you would like to order a yearbook for your child this year, please use the green order form sent home. Along with your order, please send cash or check made out to GPS for $25.00. You may also come in to order and pay for a yearbook with a Visa or MasterCard debit or credit card.
